We do it all the time.
I occasionally hear businesspeople saying ‘I don’t network’. In most cases, what they mean is that they don’t attend networking events. The reality is that like most people, they network regularly.
As networking is actually ‘chatting with others and developing relationships’, there are so many life situations where we do this – at work, dinners, parties, sport, shopping, on buses, trains, planes, the school run and so on. In fact, whenever we’re chatting with others, we’re networking.
Now here’s the best bit. The types of situations above are when the most effective networking is done.
Why?
Two reasons:
1 – We’re away from the workplace, so are more relaxed and ready to chat;
2 – The people we meet most often outwith work are very often those we have the strongest relationships with, i.e., family and friends.
At times like these we probably don’t feel that we’re networking – and that’s ok. We’re chatting, listening, helping, receiving help, sharing information, having a moan, etc. In other words, we’re networking effectively!
We help companies and teams develop a highly-effective, repeatable ‘Before, During, After & Ever After’ networking process. If you’d like to chat about your company’s or your team’s networking – and want to win more business – please contact KLT.
