We do it all the time. I occasionally hear businesspeople saying 'I don't network'. In most cases, what they mean is that they don't attend networking events.
The reality is that like most people, they network regularly. As networking is actually 'chatting with others about our work and theirs'.
Everyday Networking
Networking happens everywhere:
- At the school gates when dropping off children
- At the gym or sports club
- At social gatherings and parties
- In the queue at the coffee shop
Being Intentional
The difference between successful networkers and everyone else isn't that they network more – it's that they're more intentional about it.
Next time you're having a casual conversation, remember that you're networking. Be present, be interested, and be open to opportunities.
